Covid Art 79: In the footsteps of arte povera
In 1987 I studied art in Urbino and was taken with the arte povera movement that started in Italy. Kirt Schwitters and others who made paper collages in the 1930s also worked with the materials at hand – without going out and buying paints, sable brushes, Arches paper, etc. I pay homage to this tradition with an antique photo of a historical building (fortress? castle) in the beautiful dark shades, glued to the back of a sketchbook: the colors, textures, and materials combine with synergy.
